Yep, definitely Not a leather holster! But these are the best in their class, so a very worthy addition to our line up.

I found my first Renegade Ankle holster in the early 90s. I had read Ayoob's recommendations and had also known several of my LEO  friends in Arizona that used them on and off duty. I snapped it up and replaced an inferior holster with the supper comfy Renegade.  I bought the 2" J model and wore it every day.  Ankle holsters take a couple days to get used to, this style  has a big 4x5 thick piece of sheep skin that pads you ankle from the gun. I was working in a gun shop in North Idaho and wanted a second gun. I wore that first holster out after about 10 years of daily use.  I bought another and I still use it.  In 2015 Renegade suddenly stopped shipping and producing holsters. Many of my retail friends were looking for an alternative, after searching fruitlessly for someone to ask permission, pay a royalty to etc... I came up with nothing. I made a dozen or so copies. I happened to have the materials on hand for these. I found I still preferred to work with leather and about this time my friends at the Wilderness, after also trying to find answers from the original folks,  introduced their superior version of the Renegade. Problem solved. I have been using the Wilderness version for a few years now. It is by far a superior product to the original Renegade . Heavy elastic doubled over the gun pouch little practical touches like a loop to grip to allow holstering the gun without muzzeling one's hands. more secure, more durable, made by great folks.  Last fall I took another class from Chuck Haggard and Greg Elifritz. It was great and instructive as usual. The subject was using an ankle holster... Deploying the revolver from standing, siting, prone etc. I had brought my old original Renegade holster and a newer Wilderness version. The Wilderness version was hands down superior in every way. Stronger, with more retention, just as much, if not more, comfortable, and superior on the holstering... I have been using these for decades. I really like the folks at The Wilderness, I have been a customer of theirs since the 80s. They make great products.

From Wilderness Tactical's website 2015:" Introducing our newest holster, which is actually an ankle holster whose heritage is not so new. We are calling it "The Wilderness Copy of the Renegade Ankle Holster" to be completely above board and honest here. While we have always had an absolute dislike for copying other's designs, an exception has arisen. We were happy buying the Renegade "Cozy Partner" Ankle holsters from the Renegade Holster and Leather Co. and retailing them for years, but unfortunately they are no longer in business and this great CCW rig has been out of production. While there is more to the story, the short version is: We are now making our version of the "Renegade" here in Phoenix, as with all Wilderness-brand products.
We are very pleased with the quality of our product — including quite a few of our own improvements."
