I received my Sourdough holster Monday for My 629 classic. Very good workmanship and material. But what really impressed me was the utility that my big hogleg now has. I was contemplating rebuilding and refinishing my Model 19 Smith and Wesson, or trading for a 686, etc. from now on, it's strictly "N" frame for me. The weight is distributed across enough of the belt that I don't notice it when I carry inside the waist band, and the design holds the gun high and tight enough that it's very easy to conceal under my Sports coat outside the waist band. I will definitely be ordering from you again. I will also be getting rid of all my revolvers that aren't "N" frame.

Shannon

Rob,

The holster arrived Monday. It is beautiful and will carry my “Judge” with pride. It was certainly worth the delay.

Greg

Rob,

A brief note to tell you how much I like my new sp101 holster and pocket protector and the new belt. Everything you said is true. Nice fit and nice, clean lines. Thanks for making such a nice product! My friends will see it.

Sincerely,
H. Hagan

I now have warn your holster for several weeks now, and have carried it concealed with several jackets and shirt combinations I csn think of......inside the pants, and outside.

The holster was made for a N frame S&W 44 mag 3 inch barrel , I carry it every day, open and concealed......It is one of the most comfortable holster's I have ever had. I am truly amazed that carrying such a large frame revolver in your pancake holster, is that nobody seams to know I carry at all.

This is a testament of your craftsmanship and a great design. You have a customer for life, and will tell everyone I know about your wonderful holsters, and your fine craftsmanship of your leather products ( I also bought your belt ). Your prices are so very reasonable,.....Thank you for coming to Alaska, and bringing your craft with you,

Your holsters embody, the true rugged spirit, of this great land.

Rob, hope things are going well for you all. When wondering about your weather compared to ours in the southeast of the Lower 48, I think of our high temp predicted to be about 80 today, while the only thing that keeps running through my mind this morning about Alaska is an old Johnny Horton hit record of about 1960 or so ("When It's Springtime in Alaska, It's Forty Below")!

Needless to say, my wife and I would be tickled to awaken almost anywhere up there this morning.

When you have time, please let me know the out-the-door amount we need to write a check for to order a sourdough for a J-frame S&W Model 649.

That's her little carry piece and, after COMFORTABLY wearing Ruger Alaskans around in your sourdough pancakes for some time now, one of those for the little Smith will probably make the weapon feel like a disappearing act. The secure grip, simplicity of the design (no snaps, straps, screws, etc) as well as the addition of the extra slot offering cross-draw utility should serve well on routine concealed carry. We also were pleasantly surprised at how well your holsters hold the larger Ruger revolvers so close to the body. Concealed carry with a .44 is a delight plus a good chuckle at the same time.

I think the missus' favorite holster finish is a light shade of tan if such is available. Otherwise, we'll be happy with whatever the lightest shade is on call.

Looking forward to hearing and thanks again for the outstanding quality and utility of your products.

T. & C. Crabtree

I have been meaning to drop you a line for a week now and have regrettably fallen behind. I received the open top for my 1911 Gov and I could not be happier! Perfect fit with the weapon and my gun belt. Thanks for creating something that is both functional and beautiful. It will get many, many years of use. In fact, I'm going to order a second one for my G19 right now.

I received my Texas Pancake yesterday and just wanted to tell you that I couldn't be more pleased with your craftsmanship and work- and it fits my redhawk like a glove. I seriously sat and admired it for a solid half hour before dinner last night, and even my wife (who is a professional artist-but not that interested in gun stuff) said it was beautifully done.

Thanks,

Matt H.

I've had one of your Silver Dollar Pancake holsters for my Taurus Model 85 for well over a year. Your holster literally changed that revolver into my favorite concealed carry piece. Simply because it's the most comfortable to have on me all the time due entirely to your holster. I have more expensive handguns and more expensive holsters but none I'd rather carry. Recently I was at a gun show and picked up a nice used Taurus 431 in .44 Special. The very first thought that went through my head before I even made it to my car was that I'd have to get online and order another Simply Rugged holster for my new revolver.

Paul H.

I just wanted to say thank you. It was incredibly difficult to find a holster for my Ruger Old Army. No one seemed to make, or if they did they’d charge a small fortune, a holster for my pistol. The Long Hunter that I purchased is hands down, the best holster that I have ever purchased. The quality and craftsmanship are phenomenal! I will more than likely be purchasing more of the like for the rest of my pistols in the future.

Dave H.

Rob,

I received your Simply rugged Holster for my Ruger Alaskan, and it is awesome. I had bought and tried several other holsters from large manufacturers, and their holsters allowed the Alaskan to both rock and spread from my body. I actually gave those holsters away free. The first day I got your holster I wore it all day in the house and around town, since then, I wear it very regularly and it is totally comfortable and the Alaskan stays where it is suppose to stay. This is the best holster for the Ruger Alaskan. This holster is master design and leather work for this revolver, I know where to come for the best holsters made.

Thanks,

Rob,

Thanks for the great rig! The fit on the big smith is outstanding. This leather will undoubtedly last the rest of my days. Here are a couple of pictures of "Thumper" for you. Thanks again.

Rob,

Just wanted to thank you for making me a new holster in such a short amount of time. It worked great and carried my revolver comfortably and well. Thank you for making my trip a success in Alaska. I will probably be ordering a holster from you soon for my duty weapon, so I will talk with you soon. Here are a few pictures for you to enjoy, in one of the photos you can see your holster in use.

Thanks Again,

Bryon

By the way, my holster is not what I expected. I
expected it to be big, strong, and a little crude.
The holster I received is trim for it's purpose, strong,
very, very well finished, and fits perfectly. Now I have
to buy some more guns so I can order some more
holsters. Thanks, Rob, for a great holster.

Don

Thanks Rob! Hey, You never know, It's a small world! I wore the holster on my belt, and it really feels good. I can't believe the Big smith was so easy to conceal with my shirt tail. The pancake style holster doesn't print with the big revolver like my G19 does with the G-code paddle holster I have for it! I'm impressed! I'll be getting back to you in the future for some more pancakes! Thanks again, Chris

Hi Rob,
I got the shipment today. All the leather is great, even my wife thought the color was great. I'm very happy to have found out about your work and look forward to ordering a couple more things this summer. Thank you very much.
Chuck

Got the holster today, thanks and looks great! I'll pass your name along if anyone I know is in need of such. I am sure they will once they see this rig.

Matt

Got the holster today Rob fits like a glove, we're all smiles thanks---Bob

Just wanted to let you know that I got all the leather that I order about a week ago. My Ruger Alaskan fits perfect in the holster, the belt and Chesty straps work great. I'll be recommending your work to a could of people that I know that are looking for handmade holsters. Great leather at a great price.
David, Cpl USMC

Hi Rob,

I received the holster and cartridge slides yesterday--thank you. I have been wearing the holster more or less continuously and am very pleased at how comfortably I am able to carry my big Ruger Alaskan. I'm looking forward to carrying it in the mountains next week.

I have a Smith and Wesson Model 60 .357 Mag with a 3" full lugged barrel. Do you make holsters for this one?

Thanks again,
Sam

Rob, (120 for a 6.5 Ruger Blackhawk)
Just wanted to let you know the holster is great!!!!
I love it.

Testimonials

Got it! Love it. Perfect leather for carrying this big momma.

I am contemplating having you do a "tribute" style with my initials and if so might we credit the ten dollars I sent for the IWB strap? Having now worn this leather for the last couple of days I don't think I would wear it IWB.

Your craftsmanship is superb and the holster fulfills the promises your supporters extol. You can now count me as one of them.

I look forward to discussing a tribute. Do they come in black?

Dan

Rob you gotta love the Simply Rugged (Tribute). For behind the wire the pancake is super! I constantly get asked "where is your weapon".

Thanks for the super product, super service and support to the US Armed Forces!

I have had this Silver Dollar Pancake for 3 months now & it is now my favorite holster! The quality is superb & it is so unobtrusive that I often times forget that I have a holster on my belt. I sincerely hope that my email is not the first that you have received from customers thanking you. It is rare to find an artisan of your ability that is willing to provide such outstanding goods at such a fair price.

Rob! You've made my week! I 've been under the weather a bit, and getting this great holster in the mail today was the pick up that I needed. Wonderful craftsmanship, fits the gun like a glove. A little more compact than I thought it would be too.

Just thought I'd let you know I got it, I'll let you know how it works out after a couple days of wearing it.

Thanks again,

GaryRob made me a holster for a .41 mag mountain gun, what a beautiful piece of work. Thank you Simply Rugged.

Jeff Relitz
Blue Springs MoJust wanted to let you know I got my holster in the mail today.  I was anticipating that it would be a very good piece of work, but it really exceeded my expectations - by far!  I am really happy with it. Thank you for your excellent workmanship, and the fast service, too.

Rob,

Well I got my new leather today, and it looks awesome! The holster looks great, the Leatherman case fits perfect, and I really like the shell holder, oh, and it's really nice to have a good heavy belt that doesn't roll over on the edge. Unfortunately I won't have the gun that's going in it until Monday due to having some zebrawood grips put on it, but the leather color is going to look great with the new grips. The cant on the strong side is just right. I can't wait to show it off to some of the local range guys. You'll be hearing from me again sir, (I got more than a few more guns in need of leather). Thanks for the outstanding work.

I received my order a few days ago. WOW impressive quality, nice work, your products exceeded my expectations. My dilemma now is what do I order next?

Thanks again,
Steve Barnes (Oregon)

Rob,

Got the holster, great product, thanks so much!!!!

Here's more accolades.

Just got the holsters, Rob, and they're great! Top quality. Do you have a recommendation for break-in? Thanks.

Charlie

Rob,

The two holsters you made for my Dixie Derringer arrived today. I can't believe how nice they are! Beautiful work! Thank you so much for such a great product at an extremely fair price. I will keep you in mind for my next holster and I will be proud to show off your work to all my range buddies. Thanks again!

Norm

Rob,

I just wanted to let you know I have received my holster for my S&W 325 3" .45acp and I love it! Been wearing it for just over 1 week now, both OWB and IWB. Would have never dreamed you could conceal a 325 IWB but it does just fine with your inside-out straps. Definitely going to get one of your sourdoughs set up the same way for my j-frame as soon as I can come up with the extra scratch. Thank you again! Great holster!

Sincerest Regards,

Bruce

We do make mistakes:

Rob, I received your holster and was less than impressed. The cut was rough the leather scarred and the dye blotchy. It frankly looked used. I overlooked the flaws and thought "oh well if it carries well what does it really matter." It doesn't even do that. Every time I use it I like it less. The belt cut outs place the cylinder right on the hip bone. I have had holsters made for me before and have been much more impressed with the quality. I just wanted you to know.
Steve

But we try and correct them: We re-positioned the slots and used a nice piece of leather-Rob is STILL wondering how that rough as a cob holster got out the door?

Rob, I just wanted to say thanks. I've received the new holster and this was much more in-line with my expectations. It carries a world better too, I hardly noticed it after a day of fishing.

Thanks again,
Steve

Hi Rob,

The holster for my Ruger Alaskan gun just came recently and man it's nice! It fits like a glove, nicely constructed and looks great!! If anyone I know needs a holster or related product I'll send them your way.

Thanks again,
Kurtis

I received the new holster ant it is a perfect fit. Many thanks . What do you have or recommend for a S&W Model 29 with a 6" barrel and on a cross draw? By the way, that was very fast service on the first holster and thanks again.

Tom

Have it hanging on the post next to me as I type this. It is a fine, fine piece of work, amigo. Almost hate to put it on outside the wire, knowing the beating it will take if I do. Am now pondering how I will go about mounting it on the left side of the IBA; some stuff (the Church knife for certain, perhaps other stuff as well) is going to have to be moved, which is a major undertaking. I want to thank you again for making and sending that, amigo. I also took the lefty shoulder rig over to Jay's hooch; he is still back home on emergency leave (for his Dad's funeral, unfortunately), but I am sure he will be able to put it to good use when he gets back. Thanks again, amigo.

Mark

The holster came in yesterday, it is perfect! Thank you for a job well done.

Brenda L.

Thanks for the fine job! I received the belt, holster and cartridge slide Saturday and the fit and finish are great, Terry says the same. We can't wait to get out and try them out in the field.

Thanks again for the fine work.

Rob, Thank you for the holster. I received it Saturday and gave it to my friend. He was very impressed with it and wanted me to relay that to you. Once again, Thank you.

Rob,

Holster looks great I'll give it a work out next week. Thanks for getting to me before I leave.

Great support from you.

Thanks,

A K Church
Sourdough Pancake

My co-worker Steve ended up with Simply Rugged's set-up for a 4" Security Six.

Formerly carried in a generic nylon jobber, the gun has suddenly turned out to be a favorite for him, riding around the rural property on tractors and Bobcats. The largish handgun tucks in unobtrusively even in the cockpits of machinery.

Big whoop, you might say. My X brand does this for my Super Redhawk, and it's WAAAAAAYYY bigger than his dainty widdle SecSix. So what?

Let me note that Steve is 5 foot 3, and might weigh 140 pounds. I've seen folks from this board, and on the whole, we are of at least average size, if not just a bit beyond.

Kudos to Rob for this'n

I got my holster today. Well worth the wait. Beautiful work.

I ordered a pre-lock Mountain Gun in .44 last week. You'll be hearing from me again, soon.

Thanks,
Greg H.

My personal favorite of the follies rides in a simply rugged

Rob builds a great product. Its considerably more comfortable than the renowned K brand I first bought that cost almost 4 times as much. Nice to see one of the good guys with a good product find his own niche in a highly competitive market.
Yep, Rob does good work for sure.

I own a few of his. Will be ordering a few more. I have one of his pancakes for a 1911. It will almost disappears under an untucked t-shirt.

I suspect the "almost" has much to do with the "at least average size, if not just a bit beyond" factor. :-\

ROB,

RECEIVED MY ALASKAN HOLSTER AND IT IS PERFECT. THANK YOU FOR THE PROMPT SERVICE! I SELDOM SEE PROFESSIONAL ATTENTION ANYMORE.

BRETT A.

Got the Holster!
I've been away from home this week taking a class in Old Testament Theology at Detroit. The holster was here when I got home. Preliminary impression--Wonderful! Thanks for a great holster. After I've had a chance to carry it afield I'll write with a proper testimonial. You can be sure I'll keep you in mind for future holster needs. The holster even smells good!

All the best,
Kevin G.

Rob, I want to thank you for an excellent job on my holster. It is a perfect fit. You are an excellent craftsman and keep doing what you do best. I have sent two pictures of the finished product with my gun. Thanks again!

Hello,
I received the holster yesterday. I love it! It fits the Ruger Alaskan just right. Very nice craftsmanship.
Thank you again.

Rob, I'm sorry you haven't heard from me but I've been on a hunting trip for two weeks and I had no access to computers or phones. How nice! When I returned today, my holster was here and I have to tell you that it is absolutely beautiful! Even better than I expected. Perfect fit for my revolver and so well made. I expect to be ordering another in the near future for a S&W .44 Mag. These holsters are so nice that I think you should make me your spokesman and sales rep for Wyoming and surrounding states!

Thank you again and please see the positive [ebay] feedback I left in your behalf.

An unsolicited, unrepentant plug for Simply Rugged

I got my holsters from Rob Leahy this week, a pancake and a Border Patrol for my Model 24. The pancake holster is the only OWB holster I have ever tried that will conceal a N-frame under my blue blazer, which is the hardest test I put a holster through. Under my suede jacket, corduroy jacket, nylon windbreaker, or photo vest, no problem, hands-down winner. And with the sights covered it will not chew holes in the linings any more.

The Border Patrol is also just what I wanted: a sturdy, usable field rig. It is not a barbecue holster, but then if it was, it would be Simply Gorgeous instead of Simply Rugged. I didn't want a barbecue holster, I wanted the one I got. (Not that it is bad looking -- I hope I'm not giving the wrong impression.)

Thanks Rob, you done good!

I carry my Smith 28 in it under a untucked shirt in a store a few weeks back 3 Law Enforcement Officers didn't know I had a gun until I showed it to them. I was at a warehouse store 2 weekends ago and forgot I had it on until I got to playing on a "inversion machine". I was hanging up side down I felt the whole rig move a bit but the gun stayed in place. Just before Christmas I was confronted by a barking charging dog, it was cold so I had on a t-shirt, flannel shirt and a coat. The gun came up and was on the head of the dog without even thinking about it. The owner called the dog and I didn't have to shoot but the important part to me was how the gun was just there when I needed it to be.
Tony B.

They all came in and are great! I get the ones to Walt & Kyle tomorrow. I'll post some pictures on www.smith-wessonforum.com later this week and let you know so you can go take a look.
Thanks again.
W.C.

The holster is a good everyday working around the farm chunk of leather. It keeps the gun safe, yet I can get at it fairly quick, yet I know it ain't gonna' fall out either.

So there you have it, your holster has a few thousand miles on it and is doing fine. Thanks for a good job.

Rob, holsters came in today's mail, pretty quick all the way from Alaska.
Some great lookin stuff! Thank you.

"It is of a pancake design, and is built of quality hand-boned leather with expert craftsmanship. As can be seen in the photos, the holster offers excellent protection for the firearm, while allowing for quick accessibility if needed

Rob,
I'm extremely happy!

Got the package yesterday as I checked my mail at my Virginia apartment prior to leaving for home in Ohio for the 4th holiday. Been wearing belt, holster and 2x2x2 pouch all day today after going to the range this morning to shoot.

Functional, durable, and well made best describes your work. Only thing for me to do is wear for a few more days to break in and "mold" a bit, and then treat with "hide glide" to slick up the inside of the holster. You can expect recommendations and repeat business from me.

Thanks again for you quick turnaround. Regards,
Jack B.

Rob,
Without a doubt your rig is the most practical and comfortable way for a person to carry a big bore hand gun for field use. Your craftsmanship and the quality of the leather exceeded my expectations
Paul C.

Rob,
I received my pancake holster and belt today, I am impressed with the quality of your work. I will be field testing them this weekend but I can tell already I'm going to love them. Once again thanks for such a quality product at a fair price.
Keith K.

Just wanted to give you some feedback on the holsters you sent me. I've been using them constantly since they finally arrived. I like them all. :-) The IWB gets the nod for dress pants use, usually. The pancake gets used the most for jeans and the T3P gets carried every now and then when the mood strikes me. I think a bit more of a cant would enhance their conceivability with a square butt K-frame sized gun. The butt on the Pistol Packing Preacher's Pistol tends to print a bit when carried under a light shirt. It's not as bad under a vest like I usually wear. Over all, they've been a real help in keeping comfortably armed at all times. MANY, MANY thanks for this most valuable gift. In Christ,
Paul

Rob,
Love my new holster and cartridge loop! Gun fit is great and the Oxblood color is tops. Cartridge loop is perfect

The holster arrived yesterday. THANK YOU! I really like it and hope the business continues to grow
Bob M.

My wife doesn't even like guns, but she considers your holster to be a work of art.
Thanks,
Tom E.

I like your holster design; pure. simple functionality.
Thanks again,
Dave S.

"Also, I'm very impressed with the pancake you built for my Redhawk. I never thought I would find something comfortable to carry that thing in, but this is it. On top of that, I carried it concealed out in public for the better part of a day, under a baggy shirt, and nobody was the wiser. I'm not an overly large person at 5'-9" and 200 ponds, but I hid this big gun well, even surprising my brother when we went to the range and I pulled it out to start shooting yesterday. Well done!"
Bob L.

Good leather at a good price.
