Zogby Poll- I KNOW another Poll!

November 18th, 2008

512 Obama Voters 11/13/08-11/15/08 MOE +/- 4.4 points 97.1% High School Graduate or higher, 55% College Graduates

Results to 12 simple Multiple Choice Questions

57.4% could NOT correctly say which party controls congress (50/50 shot just by guessing)

81.8% could NOT correctly say Joe Biden quit a previous campaign because of plagiarism (25% chance by guessing)

82.6% could NOT correctly say that Barack Obama won his first election by getting opponents kicked off the ballot (25% chance by guessing)

88.4% could NOT correctly say that Obama said his policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry and make energy rates skyrocket (25% chance by guessing)

56.1% could NOT correctly say Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground (25% chance by guessing).

And yet…..

Only 13.7% failed to identify Sarah Palin as the person on which their party spent $150,000 in clothes

Only 6.2% failed to identify Palin as the one with a pregnant teenage daughter

And 86.9 % thought that Palin said that she could see Russia from her “house,” even though that was Tina Fey who said that!!

Only 2.4% got at least 11 correct.

Only .5% got all of them correct. (And we “gave” one answer that was technically not Palin, but actually Tina Fey)

Congress from a editorial page

November 16th, 2008

• Limit Congress from serving more than two or three terms. Two terms is all the President gets.
• Stop Congress from voting for their own raises. How did that ever get started?
• Stop paying for lawmaker’s high-priced insurance premiums. After all, they are only part time employees. They might pass some law changes on the insurance companies if the had to find one.
• Stop paying lawmakers their full salary after serving just one term, or at retirement. We need to get rid of that pension plan; they’ve let other companies get rid of theirs. You were lucky to get 40 to 50 percent of your salary after working for 35 years, but they get 100%.
• Make Congress pay into the Social Security system. They make the laws for it. If they spent some of their own money, they might be interested in making it solvent.
• Stop handing our aid to the illegal aliens. If we did, then Medicaid and the food stamp program would have enough money to aid the aged and the poor.
• Secure our borders.
• Stop allowing babies born to illegal aliens in the United States automatic US citizenship.
• Stop the abuse of our benevolent welfare system. We feed children free meals three times a day until they are 17. Churches give away good, clean clothes. Companies buy and donate school supplies. Emergency rooms provide health care at taxpayer expense and the food stamp program is buying food at home. What are parents doing for their children?
• Have a computer program that cross checks Social Security numbers with fingerprints to stop fraud on many fronts. Use it on voter registration, too.
• Stop bailing out mortgage companies and banks that give loans to people that can’t afford them.
• Stop companies from paying CEO’s and other executives outrageous salaries and bonuses while doing away with worker’s pensions.
• Stop all unnecessary spending so we will have the money for our nation’s security and to help need and elderly Americans.
• Stop permitting anyone to have a photo with their face covered on driver’s licenses.

“Only members of Congress can make these changes as they are the lawmakers. I don’t believe Congress is interested in changing anything, do you?”

Rifle Stuff: the 223 Mag Pouch

November 8th, 2008

Not all of us like  to wear full load bear equipment and most of us don’t need a full combat load of ammo when we go for a hike with our ARs. Tom Wetstone, my Gunsite instructor for  223 class, recommended a single spare for personal and LEO use. This can be quickly attached to the duty belt, or laced onto a pants belt.

I used to build these for myself, made from a single heavy piece of 7-8 ox steer shoulder, heavy nylon stitching, and black oxide brass mil-spec snaps, this simple rugged pouch will take the abuse and retain your magazine until you need it. These will hold 20 or 30 round magazine for Mini 14 , Kel Tec SU-16,  Ar15/M-16/M4/whatever 223/5.56 Evil Black Rifle that you own.

Bill Swehla used this 223 pouch last year on his remote Alaskan property and it worked great. He has started reproducing them for the general public.

The 223 pouch 30.00 each:

—————————————————————————————————————————–

“…Sheridan’s first instinct was to form a straggler line and prepare for the final Rebel assault. But the Rebels were too busy celebrating. And after he caught his breath, Little Phil noticed something surprising: not a broken and routed army, fleeing for their lives, but small groups of men boiling fresh coffee, speaking to one another calmly and cheering him as he rode by.

One of his aides described him at that moment: “As he galloped on, his features grew gradually set, as those carved in stone, and the same dull red glint I had seen in his piercing eyes when, on other occasions, the battle was going against us, was there now.”

You bet it was.

The closer Sheridan came to the battle, the more cheerful and animated his defeated men became. Encountering a small group of them, Little Phil would stand in the saddle, and give a jaunty salute – as if to congratulate them on a great victory, rather than another humiliating defeat.

The result was electric, if not universal. Amid the cheering, one infantry colonel – whose descendants perhaps would go on to become campaign advisers – stood in Sheridan’s path and begged him not to go on.

“The army’s whipped!” he cried.

“You are, but the army isn’t,” growled Sheridan, who then put the spurs to a horse who’s back was taller than he was and rode to the scene of the disaster, shouting, “About face, boys! We are going back to our camps! We are going to lick them out of their boots!”

His men were not beaten. They just needed leadership.

“We are going to get a twist on those fellows, men!” he shouted, pounding down the pike. “We are going to lick them out of their boots!”…”

This is a fitting follow on to my brief article below. The traditional media is our enemy and should be treated as such.

Rob

Editing Their Way to Oblivion: Journalism Sacrificed For Power and Pensions

By Michael S. Malone

The traditional media is playing a very, very dangerous game.  With its readers, with the Constitution, and with its own fate.

The sheer bias in the print and television coverage of this election campaign is not just bewildering, but appalling.  And over the last few months I’ve found myself slowly moving from shaking my head at the obvious one-sided reporting, to actually shouting at the screen of my television and my laptop computer.

But worst of all, for the last couple weeks, I’ve begun — for the first time in my adult life — to be embarrassed to admit what I do for a living.  A few days ago, when asked by a new acquaintance what I did for a living, I replied that I was “a writer”, because I couldn’t bring myself to admit to a stranger that I’m a journalist.

(Snippets via Roger @ Curmudgeonly & Skeptical)

For many years, spotting bias in reporting was a little parlor game of mine, watching TV news or reading a newspaper article and spotting how the reporter had inserted, often unconsciously, his or her own preconceptions. But my complacent faith in my peers first began to be shaken when some of the most admired journalists in the country were exposed as plagiarists, or worse, accused of making up stories from whole cloth. I watched with disbelief as the nation’s leading newspapers, many of whom I’d written for in the past, slowly let opinion pieces creep into the news section, and from there onto the front page. But what really shattered my faith - and I know the day and place where it happened - was the War in Lebanon three summers ago.  The hotel I was staying at in Windhoek, Namibia only carried CNN, a network I’d already learned to approach with skepticism.  But …   nothing, nothing I’ve seen has matched the media bias on display in the current Presidential campaign.

(This is the pay off)

In other words, you are facing career catastrophe -and desperate times call for desperate measures.  Even if you have to risk everything on a single Hail Mary play.  Even if you have to compromise the principles that got you here.  After all, newspapers and network news are doomed anyway - all that counts is keeping them on life support until you can retire.

And then the opportunity presents itself:  an attractive young candidate whose politics likely matches yours, but more important, he offers the prospect of a transformed Washington with the power to fix everything that has gone wrong in your career.  With luck, this monolithic, single-party government will crush the alternative media via a revived Fairness Doctrine, re-invigorate unions by getting rid of secret votes, and just maybe, be beholden to people like you in the traditional media for getting it there.

And besides, you tell yourself, it’s all for the good of the country . . .

“Fairness Doctrine”

October 23rd, 2008

I grew tired of reading g the lies and slander presented as news in the papers years ago. I was a young Military Policeman. I knew intimate details of certain incidents, yet when I read the press coverage, I saw nothing about what actually happened, only distortions half truths and outright lies. When I was stationed in Germany, I quickly learned to not only read the American press for their angle on a subject but to read every scrap of information from every available source and still remained skeptical as to the facts of a story.

To the Democrats, fairness means only their point of view is presented, all dissention is to be silenced.

The LEFT hates the fact that their monopoly on information is being badly eroded by radio, and the web. Newspapers and Liberal news services are loosing their readership, the nightly news shows are loosing there viewers and sponsors.

The Democrats seek to silence all opposition, no dissension, no other perspective but their own. If they were honest, this would not be an issue, but the Left knows it is built upon a stack of lies, half truths and illusion, fed by petty jealousies and promulgating hate and fear.

Sarah’s Moment:

About Sarah Palin

August 29th, 2008

I have been buried by e-mails asking me about McCain’s VP pick:

Here is my response:

PALIN/ MCCAIN  2008!

She is Solid on the 2nd amendment , an experienced hunter, commercial fishing family, her son is in the Army. (He has a Simply Rugged holster for his  M-9)
Sarah signed 2nd biggest spending bill in state history. She is not well regarded by the conservative pundits, in AK, BUT is a far better choice that ANY of the others I have seen on the short list for VP.
Her family attends the same church that we do.  Our Pastor says “God Bless America”, unlike obama’s Rev Wright.

Foreign Policy experience: She manages a state wedged between two foreign nations one of which is ran buy Vladamir Putin. Here in Alaska we have Russian submarines and Russian bombers trying to infiltrate our sovereign state every day.

Concerning this election: I am finally FIRED UP!

New Product Review At Sarges Roll Call

August 26th, 2008

http://sargesrollcall.blogspot.com/2008/08/cid-holster-from-simply-rugged-april-of.html

In the Army MP Corps the felony squad is the Criminal Investigative Department or CID. They were issued 1911s and M-36 S&Ws the savvy guys carried both. Holsters- virtually everyone carried their guns in privately purchased civilian holsters. Don Hume, Roy Baker and Bianchi holsters pancakes were the most common.

I made this for a minimalist, versatile holster that allows one to carry any 1911 in it.

gear-ready-to-go-april-08-020.jpg

“Rob knows that I bet my hide on the 1911, on a daily basis. I was pleasantly surprised when he slipped me the russet-brown belt slide at the end of the evening, It was executed in Leahy’s trademark ‘understated elegance’- deep color, just enough luster and some border-stamping to give it panache. Rob mentioned that this holster was a new offering for Simply Rugged and he’d like for me to give it a try. I thanked him profusely and assured him I would do just that. Subsequent correspondence resulted in it being dubbed the ‘CID’ Holster, which old cops will recognize as an acronym for Criminal Investigations Division. It is a fitting name for a holster which gives excellent service in that capacity.”
