Holsters for GIs

Jan & I have built and donated holsters to GIs since we started Simply Rugged Holsters. In the early days of the war I was getting phone calls from deployed friends asking for ANYTHING that would hold their sidearm more securely. We visited every gun & pawn shop in Alaska’s Mat-Su Valley and Anchorage and cleaned out the used holster bins and most of the store owners donated more when we told them what it was for. A LOT of Left Handers were using the wrong gear and everyone seemed to loath the leg dangler type “Operator” holsters issued.
We have built hundreds of our own designs, primarily the Cuda and Tribute for pilots, doctors, MPs and SEALs Infantrymen, airgcrew, Strykers Armor crew etc.
We have received requests form folks that would like to help. We continue to donate holsters to deploying GIs regardless of service or rank. If they are going to Iraq & Afganistan let us know. If you would like to donate funds to help cover the cost you can do so. Ordr a Cuda or a Tribute holster and state for any GI or give us the APO address for a specific GI.

Sourdough Pancake™

This rugged field or concealment holster is made from 8-9 oz. steer shoulder. It is tightly molded to the gun, and does not require a thumb strap for retention. The gun is positioned so that the back of the trigger guard is exposed, while the trigger remains covered, ensuring a good grip every time you reach for your pistol. I build this for medium and large frame revolvers.The Silver Dollar is a scaled down version of this holster for small framed guns.This is our most popular and versatile holster. We make it in a variety of barrel lengths to fit your pistol. This design securely holds the revolver with the opposing tension of the offset belt loops. The hand molding of the holster, to the revolver’s contours also helps to provide retention. This is the holster that Rob carries his pistols in while hunting and fishing.For deeper concealment & quick on off convenience, get the bolt on “Inside The Waistband Straps.” This allows you to tuck the holster inside your waistband securely. I developed this for my own use around 2004. It allows you to quickly and easily convert your belt holster to an Inside the waistband holster & back to a belt holster when desired.

Silver Dollar Pancake™

A scaled down Sourdough rig designed for the smallest revolvers only. S&W J frames: M-36, 37, 38, 342, M-60 etc. or Taurus Small frames; M-85 0605 etc, Charter Arms revolvers, Ruger, LCR, Sp 101 (2 ,3 & 4″ Models NOT one size fits all) and Colt D frames. Ruger Bearcat, 2,3,4,5,inch Js. I do not offer the hammer strap straps on hammerless guns like the Ruger LCR, S&W M-37 M-40 (and the other hammerless guns). Available for auto loaders only.This close riding pancake holster will protect both you & the gun. Field tested in Iraq and Afghanistan. Named in honor of Alaska’s great Governor, Sarah Cuda.This is a deceptively simple design: it has a tab in the back to keep the gun off of your side even when worn against your skin. Under a shirt. the 3 slots allow for adjusting the angle and position of carry. Strong side behind the hip on the top slot, is my particular favorite way to use this holster. I carry my autos in the Cuda.I have found that the leather is heavy enough and well formed enough that holstering is easy even when worn inside the waistband.

This offers almost the same full protection to your gun as my Sourdough, but in a more traditional format. This is probably a better option for you skinny folks than a large pancake holster. Whether you go to the range to practice and compete or ride the range for solitude and peace of mind, you’ll enjoy the Cattleman.This is a good holster for Cowboy Action Shooting.I am making a set for my Ruger Flat Tops and Vaqueros. After using the older design for almost a year, I have found some short comings and addressed them here with this more traditional holster. It offers more protection for the gun rides lower and has better eye appeal.A secure, high ride heavy duty holster; your gun is in position for a quick, smooth, draw and effortless holstering. There is a molded in sight track so even shaded and patridge style front sight blades won’t snag.
Available with a hammer loop or a hammer strap, this holster is tightly molded to each model and barrel length for a great fit and retention. This has a fold over loop design that is snug and can be made for belts up to 2.5″ wide (standard is 1.75″) or as narrow as 1.5″.
